Peter Higgs believed he would be regarded as “unproductive" in today’s academia. He simply wouldn’t be able to “survive” in science. On his way to Stockholm to receive a Nobel Prize in 2013, he said the following in an interview:

A generational campaign against healthy disagreements and emotional control WILL inevitably lead to extreme polarisation and inability to coexist. What is happening now is nothing unprecedented; there have been enough warnings over the years.

A well-formulated lie appears as truth, and can even be used to make a moral statement. It is up to us to investigate from every angle, and then conclude.

As a society, we are losing the ability to treat everyone with respect regardless of their opinions or behavior. Respect is not the same as compliance or agreement, even though they are typically considered synonymous. Do not conflate them.

The value of ‘wasting time’ on deep thinking is often overlooked in a scientific ecosystem increasingly tainted by Wall Street’s productivity mindset. nature.com/articles/d4158…

This is rich - one of the primary reasons scientists don't have a lot of time to think is that @nature and its ilk have promoted a culture where the primary goal of science is to produce bloated Nature papers that require lots of time and money, but little thought, to produce.

In our paper released today, we show that our first observational results from the Stellar Stream Legacy Survey are in excellent agreement with the predictions of three Cold Dark Matter cosmological simulations: arxiv.org/abs/2409.03585 (Credit: G. Donateillo/David Martínez-Delgado)

I'm back with another new Milky Way satellite galaxy from the DELVE survey! Introducing Aquarius III: arxiv.org/abs/2410.00981. We argue it's interesting because of its cold velocity dispersion + orbit which keeps it far from the disk plane --> formed in a very-low-mass DM halo?

The real threat to democracy is when citizens begin to idolise their preferred candidate and prioritise emotions over information. Then, the nation itself contributes to the downfall of its social fabric, regardless of who comes in power.
