My very latest reading has taken me to Abercromby. First read about Abercromby through my interest in the disastrous Helder campaign of 1799 and Sir John Moore’s early career and thought it was about time I got to understand more about this outstanding military leader of the age.

My latest read. The campaigns into Low Countries during the Revolutionary & Napoleonic periods are fascinating, all seemingly fell apart into failure due the individual agenda of the allies.

19/Sept 2024, 225th anniversary, battle of Bergen, Nth Holland, 1799. Poorly coordinated offensive action from anglo British & Russian army resulted in them being unable to hold Bergen and retreating back to where they had started the day.

Very happy the have found the memorial of Lieutenant-General Sir Ralph Abercrombie at Fort Almo, Valletta on the island of Malta. Died following his wounds taken at the battle of Alexandria, 21March 1801.
