A4: You may have heard me talk about my daughter -- a C student in 5th grade w/ a teacher she deemed expected little of her, and a Straight-A student thereafter, after I fought for her to be placed (and left) in pre-AP classes. More challenging work, more engaged student. #gtchat

A5: First of all, when equity is centered in a #GT classroom, Black/Brown students, ELL Ss, those from low-income households or with other exceptionalities don't have to defend why they are in the #GT classroom. They're there bc they belong. Period. #gtchat

A5: In environments where brilliance and access to quality education is still subject to the wiles of white supremacy culture, it is especially to de-center whiteness as the norm if we are going to de-colonize brilliance. #gtchat

A5: We see a step back on this with today's SCOTUS ruling. America wants us to believe so badly that this is a meritocracy. But immediately after electing the first Black president (arguably the most qualified in history), the ugliest parts of America reared their heads. #gtchat

A thought: Instead of ppl calling on HBCUs to do more to increase opportunity for Black (and prob Brown) students in light of the SCOTUS decision, call on states and the Feds to increase funding to help them support increased access for students barred out.
