What there needs to be is rapid access so when a person enters the contemplative phase of their addiction cycle they don't have a three week waiting period for treatment. I had a patient turned away from treatment because he was a stimulate user, not opioid. The system is a mess

🛑‼️🇨🇦 Words and phrases to describe Canadian government responses to homelessness:

Gehenna, hell-hole, foggy miasma of bullhoeey, eternal pigsty, unending odious misery, valley of doom, pit of perpetual pain, satanic pestilence, pus pit.

Please add your own.

risky drug use and psychological distress are 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀, not 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀, of homelessness

We desperately need more housing, both market and non-market. But government must have a plan for the people who are displaced when affordable housing is knocked down to build that new housing.

This video nails it. We can't have rising land and home prices and affordable housing for all.

We need to dial back the commodification of land/housing and find new ways to create financial security and sustainability.

Our recent tax study finds that the top 1% pay less tax as a share of income than EVERYBODY else. This has to change. And despite what your conservative uncle thinks no one pays half their income in taxes.

I'm excited for BC Housing to strike. Maybe some tenants and houseless can visit those pickets lines and we can all demand rights together.

This was actually my starting point into housing research. In my master’s thesis (U of T 1988) I wondered why ‘planning for violence prevention’ was all about street lights, rather than affordable housing & local women’s services. 36 years later, still wondering.

Being a advocate is getting very lonely. No matter how good the results we keep being dragged back to “shelter first “ & “earn your housing first” despite dismal results from that approach. The failed examples given as justification were not real .

“Over the last decade, Ontario’s rent control guideline has allowed landlords to increase rents by 16.5%,” said ⁦Ricardo Tranjan⁩ , the ⁦@policyalternatives⁩ report’s co-author. “Over that time, average rents have actually increased by 54.5%.” thestar.com/real-estate/to…

Wow. I'm so ashamed of what our culture has done to people with disabilities.

This is about MAiD-free public health care. A phrase I didn't know existed until now.

I asked the provinces if they think housing is a human right, and plan to make rules protecting that right. Quebec sent this:

'Do I ghost her again? Otherwise, a general response that doesn't answer, to say housing is a priority for our government?'

So this must mean there will imminently be affordable and supportive , safer supply, detox, treatment beds and dry housing for everyone who needs it, right? Which is really what we have always needed to stop the harm.

I'm willing to be that the public housing of the 60's was 100% affordable to low incomes, but public investments in housing today are mostly only affordable to high incomes (even if they mkt it as middle-class housing, don't be fooled).
