Litter collected in a short time from a North Devon beach. > 400 items collected and removed from the environment. Rope and plastic fragments dominate. Also sanitary items (what look like cotton buds, panty, wipes, and face cotton pads).

On what looks like a beautiful North Devon beach there is a ‘hidden’ secret. Look more closely at the sand, and you will see plastic, plastic everywhere.

We are in the 4th decade of privatisation. What happened to all the cash? Dumping sewage in the environment remains spectacularly profitable. You slashed the Environment Agency monitoring budget & allowed water companies to self-report sewage dumping. Catastrophic - all on your watch.

Best before 1986! Latest Marine Conservation Society beach survey collected 12kg washed on shore & these old food wrappers. Original Cadbury Boost ‘85, McVities ‘86, Butterkist Popcorn ‘93 & a Bounty RRP 21p from ‘88 plus much more. This historic problem shows #plasticisforever . We have to do better.

🪠Fats, oils, grease (FOG), and wet wipes can all cause blockages in the sewer network, leading to untreated sewage spilling into waterbodies.

🚽 You can help by making sure that only the 3 P's (pee, poo, and paper) get flushed and by properly disposing of cooking waste.

🎰 It's a gamble where our waste goes!

Untreated sewage is frequently released into our waterbodies, it's safer to assume that your waste will end up in a river!

It’s a disgrace that we are in this state, but you can’t assume your sewage is filtered or treated.
