Speaking at Global Gov Forum's webinar on the gender pay gap, Lucille discussed the direct and structural causes behind the gap, and how organisations across the public and private sectors can break those barriers down by engaging with employers and promoting transparency.

Fantastic to be a part of the Global Gov Forum webinar on how to eliminate the gender pay gap - at the current rate of decrease it will take til 2044 to eliminate it - we can and must do better than that

If civil service numbers go down, then one area or another of public policy (or, more likely, many) will need to do less or stop. We ask for a bit of candour here, it's what the public and civil servants both deserve

Every decision comes with consequences. If the government wants to reduce the size of the civil service, it must decide which of its priorities it is willing to sacrifice?

'Cutting civil servants comes with consequences. Ministers have to be honest with the public about what those are. Up until now they haven't been', Dave Penman tells Kate McCann.

“They have deliberately fudged this legislation.”

The government’s ‘vague’ Rwanda policy has left civil servants in a difficult position, says the FDA's General Secretary Dave Penman

'500,000 civil servants doing... exactly the same working pattern, it clearly... doesn't make sense. It's just a nonsensical approach'

Dave Penman on why a one-size-fits-all approach to hybrid working doesn't make sense for the civil service.

This is long overdue, House staff want to see this important issue finally move forward. But this can only happen if the original motion, which assesses risk at the point of arrest (rather than the time of charge), is brought back and timetabled.

I'm no arithmetician, but I'm pretty sure it will not save enough money to fund a defence increase by cutting 70k civil servants. Here are some more ordered thoughts from Dave Penman 👇

This thread exposes the sheer fantasy economics of the government’s plans to reduce the civil service head count (not to mention how such cuts would impact service delivery to the public!)

The Rwanda Bill leavea civil servants “in an invidious position, where a minister could instruct them to break international law but their professional obligation, as set out in the Civil Service Code, prohibits them from doing so”, says ⁦Dave Penman⁩ independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…

This is a choice from government. They could've made the language explicit in the legislation & we'd be nowhere near this. They could've changed the Civil Service Code to say civil servants can be asked to break the law but they don't want to. So they've deliberately fudged it.

It is astonishing that the Minister with responsibility for the civil service would choose to trash the very people he has responsibility to lead, inspire and motivate. He has chosen cheap political point scoring over making the case in govt for CS depts to be fully resourced.

Dave Penman on the unacceptable situation the government are placing civil servants in.

JRM would be better reading and supporting the fundingthenation.org report from ARC FDA union which finds that if HMRC were properly funded, it would result in improvements to customer service AND increase revenue for the Treasury. It’s NOT about home vs office working
