1. The most troubling aspect of the discourse about SLANT etc has been the conflation of so many conditions and individual circumstances into 'this is exclusive to children with SEND.' A few things it is important to get below..

1. Sentence combining
2. Sentence shrinking
3. Sentence expanding
4. Sentence signposting

It appear that when we read a sentence, the cognitive load is greatest at the end of the sentence where we experience a 'wrap up' effect as we draw the themes together. The more clauses, the greater the demand (Lobina et al. 2017).
