I’m reading that people are being given *very* short notice to present oral submissions to the Select Committee for the fast-track bill. (A day, or less.)

IANAL, but this doesn’t sound legit? There is such a thing as time to prepare a submission, physically get there, etc

I think it's worth doing but I'll be somewhat surprised if beef itself ends up positive for H5N1. AFAIK there's no indication that virus is replicating in muscle tissues in cows.

A more relevant question is what is Dept. of Agriculture's plan for testing the actual beef cattle themselves?

Some of our Resident Medical Officers (doctors) have notified us of strike action from 7:00am Tuesday 7 May to 8:00am Wednesday 8 May.

If the strike proceeds, all emergency departments will remain open and hospital patients will receive safe care.

Shout out to the Otago Regional Council who at least kept free bus fares for children under 12

Disappointing that they didn’t keep cheaper fares for high school kids at least, but it’s better than nothing

I remain convinced that were it not successfully contained, SARS-1 would have been a civilization-altering pandemic

Also, I caught whooping cough in Wellington just before COVID landed here in NZ. People my age (I'm 60 now) were finding their childhood vaccine had worn off (weaker batch in that age cohort). So check in with your GP in case you need a booster.

Newspaper citing veterinarian who states people exposed to H5N1 infected cows had flulike illness but not willing to test for fear of business. Important to think about because willingness to test is key in understanding extend of human involvement dailymail.co.uk/health/article…
