Working at a #BWDSB school today - the prompt "Find two fractions with different denominators that are close together" - Great use of double number lines

Working with Grade 6 Students today exploring ratios emphasizing the Concrete-Representation-Abstract model with a ratio number routine. Thanks for the fun! Bluewater DSB Doug Duff

Great to see the number line at the bottom of the PartS Whole Box. WOW! Benchmarks are there - especially when you scale up 100x. From a bit less than 1400, 700 is 1/2, 350 is 1/4….important practice of estimating with hundredths and 1000’s.

Look. closely at the Embedded Quantity Decomposition. Nice work transferring to angles - which are PartS of a Whole!

Fabulous flexibility with rods. Great how you worked in Fractions greater than 1. Now we can visualize all the adding and difference between fractions with unlike denominators.

Yes, and If you use you 1/8th benchmark or partition into eighths. You could estimate there are 8 68's + 1/2 of 68. So a bit more than 8 1/2 times.

These grade 3 students in Ms. Boisvenue’s class are using number lines to solve subtraction problems! It’s great to see a variety of strategies to build confidence St. Brother Andre School #ocsbMath Doug Duff

The Grade 6s St. Luke School (Ottawa) learned how Cuisenaire rods can be used to work on algebra problems. They modelled some equalities and then subbed values into algebraic expressions to solve them! #ocsbMath #Cuisenaire #ocsb Doug Duff
