The combination of a clear system for cellphone storage during class and swift, consistent parent contact is leading to a happier classroom than I've had in a few years.

The lousy quality of so many AI education resources is bringing together traditional & progressive educators like nothing else ever has. ChatGPTreaty of Versailles. ❤️

Here are ten short lesson ideas, all pulled from major curricula and edtech products. Which of them will ACTUALLY work well? Which will result in chaos? Take the survey and check your answers against practicing teachers. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAI…

⚡ Bumping this for the late shift. Very interesting responses so far, especially the difference between "teachers" and "not." x.com/ddmeyer/status…

Dan Meyer Thank you for allowing us to see the survey of all the responses. If you are an educator, this is worth the few minutes it takes to do..

Thank you Amplify and Desmos Classroom for releasing so many free activities. I sat my 3rd grader down and she worked her way through this. Commutative property of multiplication FTW. Also thanks for a kid friendly definition of conjecture. Will definitely use this in alg 1!

Two reasons why teaching is harder than surgery: 1️⃣ Surgeons can work without the patients' cooperation. The patient is likely sleeping! 2️⃣ Surgeons can do their job successfully without the relationship-building required for teaching.

If anyone needs a character or teaching reference for Jenna Laib right now, for WHATEVER reason, please give them my direct line. She's the real deal—the highest caliber in both categories.

My little kid keeps saying the word "sidewards." My entire pedagogy is: "This is smart. His brain is working exactly as it is supposed to."

Charles Logan I also stopped and did a double take there -- the benefits they list for genAI, like 'providing summaries' if I recall, are so feeble I was left scratching my head by their own argument... why "overhaul curricula" for *this*?

I took six of the most common AI lesson ideas and asked teachers, consultants, industry types, “Will these work?” 200 teachers looked at the AI lesson ideas and said, “Nope.” danmeyer.substack.com/p/teachers-are…

What, an empirical investigation to surface data from informed educators on whether AI is useful for certain educational ends? (Answer: "Nope.") Wtf is Dan Meyer doing? Besides demonstrating the folly of the AI eduhype, I mean?

🚮 Put this in the trash—asking teachers to upend their pedagogy to serve a technology for results that are, at this point, completely speculative. x.com/charleswlogan/…

I've been such a fan of Dan Meyer's writing since I subscribed a few months ago. This is such a great read for those who are interested in AI. He's spot on, in my opinion: open.substack.com/pub/danmeyer/p…
