The world probably does not need another AlphaFold related review from us but with Miguel Correa @[email protected] Jürgen Jänes and Delora Baptista we try to discuss here what is the impact of these methods specifically for research on human genetics and health annualreviews.org/content/journa…

Amazed by the work of the other laureates and inspired by the fact that, often, the most critical developments in research are enabled by curiosity-driven investigations. Including our beloved next-gen sequencing technologies.

We are looking to host a student to work with us this summer on a project investigating the use of native DNA, long read sequencing to uncover genomic and epigenomic defects in ovarian cancer

For people interested in such things, I just submitted a new book chapter on ancestral state reconstruction & you can check out a pre-print version here: github.com/liamrevell/Rev….

My PhD work was just submitted for publication and the paper is available now as a preprint! Structure and physics suggest the evolution of Tyr specificity in Tyr kinases has also destabilized the active conformation. Or is it the other way around? Fascinating and strange.

Soham Dibyachintan first came to our lab with support from Mitacs. With no previous lab experience, he constructed the first deep mutational scanning library of a SH3 domain, published here. So great to be able to welcome people from around the world nature.com/articles/s4146…

Happy to share Soham Dibyachintan’s first PhD paper (work done with Alex Dubé) in which he looked at the consequences of cryptic divergence in redundant duplicated genes by exploring future evolution. It turns out that epistasis dictates what they can become. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

The LNER main train from London to Edinburgh is and remains a thoroughly anti-human experience. That is all.

Very impressive example of rapid gene duplications and functional diversification of kinases uncovered by Moritz Treeck, Hugo et al. David Bradley and I were very happy to contribute.

Preprint! This is for researchers, aficionados and scientist.

We investigated the evolution of the exported FIKK kinase family of the Malaria causing parasite in much detail. There are many cool features to the FIKKs! 1/n

I had a great time at my first in-person OCAC-OTTA and MOCOG meetings in sunny(ish) LA, California, where Prof. Brenton and myself respectively had the opportunity to present our work

It was great to hear about the great work being done in the consortia

Preprint by Philippe Després: how many mutations are needed to turn an obligate homodimer into an obligate heterodimer by gene duplication? One/gene is enough.

See our story on how deleterious mutations can construct more complex molecular machines.

Our (Jürgen Jänes) review on recent progress in deep learning models for protein structure prediction and design is out in Mol Syst Biol. This is meant as a primer for those outside wanting to get an update on what is going on with some thoughts on the future embopress.org/doi/full/10.10…

Happy to share the publication of our paper in nature

Conformational ensembles of the human intrinsically disordered proteome

Work led by Giulio Tesei and Anna Ida🕊. I'll post more later, but for now here is a link:
