It was a little strange talking while anchored to a lectern labeled “GPI”. That would be a better fit for a PNH meeting.😉 #HematologyNerdHumor #medtwitter #MPNCarolinas

I was interviewed for this health.com article by @Lolaannamendez re: compression stockings on long-haul flights. ASH VTE guidelines includes a discussion of them. Data quality overall not high but some people feel better w/ them. health.com/compression-so…

Last week there were ring sideroblasts on the cover, and if you thought that couldn’t be beat… This week’s issue has *Hemoglobin H inclusions* and “golf ball” cells (these show up with supravital staining in severe alpha thalassemia.) Blood Journal is just playing the hits.

In Tallinn, Estonia there’s a pharmacy - Raeapteek - that’s been openfor >600 years. They no longer dispense burnt hedgehogs, stallion hooves or sun-bleached dog 💩but still serve the community. Splenectomy is a procedure that has risks - bleeding, thrombosis, infection - but accidentally removing the liver instead of the spleen is a new one. How does that happen?! What a catastrophe. Condolences to the patient’s family. newsweek.com/doctor-surgery…

I’m in Houston and just saw local meteorologists discussing how “quiet” the Atlantic hurricane season has been so far, longest gap between storms since 1968. These people clearly were never medical residents! The Q word is how you summon the wrath of the Universe😳 #MedTwitter

In #CMLsm TKIs have revolutionized treatment, but the FDA Oncology approved doses were often not the best doses and key AEs were not highlighted by Ph1 trials - summarized here by Jorge Cortes MD #SOHO24. FDA Project Optimus will help, but onus is also on Pharma to do trials better.

A few years ago, I saw the visiting seminar speaker at my institution was someone who had been an absolute monster back when they were a surgical senior resident and I was a lowly MS-3 on the Surgery rotation. I skipped & caught up on emails. Sometimes you just gotta let it go.😊
