#ThrowbackThursday The card catalogue was ground breaking in its day, providing a quick & reliable way to find books by author and subject and not simply title. The entire catalogue was recorded on index cards and filed in drawers like the wooden cabinet shown below ca. 1952.

Earth Day is Monday and the theme for 2024 highlights the damage plastics cause to the environment. In 2019, in the “Imaging the Earth” course, Davidson students tracked plastics and other trash on campus. Check out their blog post & the results tinyurl.com/2f4hdw6u

Today is World Book Day; and we're showcasing our Bullard Book of Hours from France and handwritten in ca. 1500. Each short devotional passage begins with an illuminated letter; and the marks over words indicate that letters have been omitted.

National Poetry Month (April) was established in 1996, but many years earlier, Davidson students elected a Class Poet. In 1923 & 1924, students elected William Francis Gallaway, Jr. He was also Captain of the Track Team, member of the Spanish Club, and earned numerous honors.
