2/ Getting down in the mud and wreckage of someone's flooded home, and seeking the enormous privilege and honour of telling their story to a wider audience, is a truly humbling experience.

1/While it is always easy to leave a job you hate, it is a much tougher decision to leave a job you love. But after navigating Lismore City News through not one. but two major floods during the course of 2022, I've decided it is time to jump ship.

2/ In a way the events of February 28, 2022 in Lismore have shaped all of us living in this region and, out of it, I have found a higher calling. Next Tuesday, I will be joining the Northern Rivers Reconstruction Corporation (NRRC) as a Senior Communications Advisor.

David Kirkpatrick (@davidkirkpatri3) 's Twitter Profile Photo

3/ The NRRC has an initial budget of $800m and is tasked with helping the Northern Rivers recover from Australia's worst ever flood disaster. I've loved my time with ACM. It is such a nurturing and supportive environment.

4/ What has inspired me and put fire in my belly each and every day I have been a journalist is the stories people entrust us to tell. Amazing stories. Unbelievable stories. That's what I will miss along with my colleagues such as Cathy Adams and Mitch Craig.
