Great to see the work to strengthen sustainable transport in Leeds is bearing fruit.

Today is World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. Worldwide, 1.35 million die on streets and roads each year. This was the Chicago Tribune’s method of personalizing for its readers of the scale of the loss for 1935 in Cook County (1935 population: 4 million).

Great piece that gets right to the heart of what we're all grappling with in sustainable transport planning and design: 'most of the stuff on our streets is motoring infrastructure. Once you see that, it's impossible to unsee it.'

Astonishing statistic. The "opportunity cost" of cutting fuel duty is staggering. Rather than making transit free with all those forgone tax receipts, another option would have been to radically expand transit service levels and keep fares lower.

This is surely closely related to the expansion of high quality provision for cycling in London over the last decade plus

A great way of putting it: arguably the original takeover occurred even earlier in many British cities.
