Just reviewed a #paper for a high profile journal and it beautifully integrated multiple concepts we observed in our lab (unpublished) in a way that completely makes sense, explains others' findings, and is incredibly novel. Bravo! ACCEPT with NO revisions. Gladly #scooped.

Academics from poorer socio-economic backgrounds are more likely to - not publish - have outstanding publication records - introduce more novel scientific concepts - less likely to receive recognition, as measured by citations, Nobel Prize nominations, and awards.

NIH withdrew several funding opportunities related to diversity. They’re not going to review the ones already in, and apparently they’re not going to pay the ones that have just been awarded.

About a month after Donald Trump took office, almost all grant-review meetings remain suspended at the US National Institutes of Health, preventing the world’s largest public funder of biomedical research from spending much of its US$47 billion annual budget.

Unfortunately there is a larger volume of quickly growing brain cancer (glioblastoma, IDH WT, unmethylated etc) in my left brain. The prognosis is poor. Whilst some of my recurrent tumour was removed last week, some of it couldn’t be because of its site. While the neoadjuvant

News of the first NIH grant cuts at Columbia medical center have come in. Center grants (including of the diabetes center where I am), training grants for PhD students. PhD students are certainly not the reason for federal budget woes, they are among the most altruistically

Applications are now open for the Shenoy Undergraduate Research Fellowship in Neuroscience (SURFiN) program for the 2025–26 academic year. The SURFiN program aims to spark and sustain interest in neuroscience among undergraduate students who have not had access to research

As a former HHMI Gilliam fellow, I’m deeply disappointed to see HHMI cancel the Hanna Gray this year and pause all competitions. Leslie Vosshall PhD, Erin O’Shea — this was a moment to lead with vision, not retreat.
