How are different households likely to fare under the benefit and tax cuts promised in the Conservative manifesto? 💸 The richest fifth of households would gain £1,300 🪙 The poorest fifth would lose £250 under the tax cuts and welfare savings proposed today

🏠THREAD🏠 Why everything you thought you knew about housebuilding in the UK might actually be wrong. A nerdy but quite important thread, with special relevance in an election where every politician is promising to build x-thousand more homes. It begins (of course) with a chart

NO WHERE in this comment do I talk about taxes. And the policy that I discussed (i will keep private as it was private) was NOT about taxes, or tax rises, it was about something that would be a positive change.

The Tories are running a fake fact check scam against the BBC debate. See how they've renamed and rebranded their website to make it look like something it's not. Spread the word. Don't let them get away with it. #bbcdebate

Half a life ago, I got to work with Darren on the first Southampton Fairness Commission. He’s a hard-working, decent and passionate person who I know would be great for Southampton. So great to see him get this opportunity to represent Itchen 🌹

By tomorrow well over 60 MPs will have been former SU sabbatical officers. Note to Starmer - they’re a great bet for ministerial jobs. Will understand the required relationship between the Civil Service and ministers very fast.

With thanks to SEHE Journal, I've now published an article from my PhD on student belonging. A short, reflective piece on how to avoid simplistic and deficit approaches to building belonging amongst underrepresented student groups. sehej.raise-network.com/raise/article/…

We don't hear enough about public health successes. Here's one. Trachoma, a major bacterial cause of blindness, has declined massively across Africa over the past few decades, after directed efforts to provide antibiotics, clean water & improve hygiene.

A huge well done to everyone in #TeamMDX who has led us to the best National Student Survey results we've ever had. Onwards and upwards...

I just re-watched Luca on Disney+, so this felt particularly relevant. What a better place the world is when we all get to be comfortable in our unique strangeness.

A welcomed step forward in restoring the idea that politics should be about service. I would say that this should go further and include a ban on MPs taking second jobs in the media. Can journalists really hold politicians to account when they share an employer?

As I'm in the middle of four (🥲) R&Rs this summer, must say, there is a world of difference between a reviewer who is committed to making *your idea* lucid and well structured Vs One who arbitrarily wants you to engage with *their* idea, even if irrelevant to the argument

Some great analyses of online engagement across POLAR groups here by @kellyedmunds et al. - Really nice to see a study that's honest with the challenge of how single interventions are rarely enough to address attainment / awarding gaps
