Law is a business. #LawAsABusiness

Yes, it certainly is! Yet law school doesn’t teach us even the most basic business skills. That is why Karen Skinner and I have spent >10 yrs providing lawyers proven skills & frameworks to become as good at the business of law as they are at the practice of law.

So our 7am flight from Montreal to Toronto today was cancelled at 8:40pm last night. Next available flight is at 2:30 pm?! But we have a strat planning mtg at 10am. What to do?? Within 30 mins, we were in the car & on the road. Arrived ~2:30 am. It’s going to be a LONG day!

My home again for the night. Helping my friend by guest bartending at his restaurant while he works the floor during a special evening of Standup Comedy. I expect it’s going to be a busy night! 🥃🍻🥂

Holy Hanna…the airport is busy this morning. Happy to have Nexus. Saved tons of time. Now having coffee and breakfast before a day of meetings in Toronto.

And yet ANOTHER flight delay! Last time this happened, I gave up and drove to Toronto instead!

And now on our return flight to Montreal…delayed twice so far “due to an operational issue from an earlier flight.” So delayed on the way out and delayed on the way back. My money is on having to spend the night in Toronto…but at whose expense? #airtravelsucks

Tornado warning for Montreal and surrounding area…Ottawa area was already hit!! Could be a very busy afternoon with the Rescue Unit.

Heading down the St Lawrence River to Montreal. A reasonable amount of traffic in the seaway so far this morning. This was our first encounter of the day. We’ve passed three more Lakers since.

The start of another crappy sunset…

Heading to DC to present tomorrow at the DC Bar Association’s annual Practice 360 conference. Looking forward to a fun and interactive session on The Power of Purpose: Unleashing Your Law Firm’s Strategic Vision.

OMG! Flight to DC yesterday was seriously delayed by computer problems (after 90 mins decided to change planes & gates). Now just advised my return flight will also be delayed for a “technical issue” on an earlier flight. Air Canada What’s up with your fleet & maintenance??

Further to below: as I have to clear Cdn customs & then pass thru security again, there is now no way I will make my connection from YYZ to YUL. 2nd time in 6 mos that a simple journey on Air Canada with a generous allowance for a connection at YYZ hasn’t gone well.

By way of a further update: supposed to be boarding for delayed flight home, yet no plane at the gate. Air Canada has just advised us the reason there is still no plane at the gate is because our plane is now even more delayed. This is what happened on my way here yesterday! WTH!

And yet another update on my epic journey with Air Canada: just landed in YYZ. No need to worry about missing connection to YUL…since that flight has ALSO been delayed. 3 flights in 2 days. All delayed for tech or maintenance issues! Honestly, this is insane!
