Calling it illegal, DDA demolished a mosque in Mehrauli last week. When The Indian Express set out to investigate, it found that ASI records had listed it a century ago. By Vidheesha Kuntamalla indianexpress.com/article/cities…

I think this came out today! If you get a copy before me, let me know. I don’t often think about books as exciting, but this one is!

This Sunday, I want to share a story that took me to Satara. In rural India, a public library can be the very lifeline of a village or town; Rahimatpur's Hind Vachanalaya does exactly this by giving people a place to read, study and find community. LINK: mid-day.com/sunday-mid-day…

A tremendous book. It's hard enough to do top-rate archival work in several languages, now add some memorable ethnographic fieldwork as well. This was as delightful to read as another gem from the genre of historical ethnography – John Pemberton's "On the Subject of Java."

The end product of humanities and social science PhDs does not have to be the proto-monograph. It is wonderful to see PhD students at Brandeis writing and producing dissertations in different kinds of ways and reaching new audiences!

I am currently mentoring a few academics (my own PhD students and a few early-career TT scholars) and I am trying to teach them about how to frame their work in terms of the broader questions of a field, and a discipline. Any ideas for good citations on how to do this linking?

Tonight, hold your people close. Think of those you love. The world feels unbearably heavy—today, and everyday. In a time like this, gentleness is everything. 🖤 #Ahemdabad
