T2: Some of our days are routinely busier than others. Planning ahead and reserving time on those not so busy days to focus on research and orchestrate these with essential research members to be more efficient. #ctcareers

T2- it’s tough. People think if not in OR, or clinic, that you’re ‘free’. Sometimes just need to tell others you’re unavailable except emergencies for an hour block, and do your best to stick to a schedule. Sched meetings with a collaborator and stick to it. #CTCareers

T2 - Its okay to hide. If you're not going to get any thing done in your office then find another space when you have a valuable chunk of time. #CTCareers

T2: I was only being partly facetious. One potential model is to do clinical and research weeks or weeks without call in order to maximize research productivity on off-call weeks. Needs buy-in from whole group and different mentality of practice #ctcareers

Support from your colleagues is key! 👍🏻. Goes both ways too- make sure you support their interests as well! #CTCareers

Biniam Kidane I agree Biniam Kidane mentorship and leadership in your group is key. If research productivity is not valued by your group it is a big hill to climb. You need to negotiate this up front before signing your contract #CTCareers.

T4: I think this is really crucial. You have to work through the stages of grieving from peer review, but the end result is better science and more success with funding.

Thoracic Surgeon Northwestern Medicine still trying to figure out this whole ‘adulting’ thing myself. Hopefully you can enlighten us Brian Mitzman! Looking forward to a great chat! #CTCareers

T1) I took about 4 hours off and really don’t recommend that approach. You need time to clear your head and acknowledge the transition in a meaningful way. Break up the marathon! #CTCareers

T2) I think a lot of us fight this urge to stay at the hospital until 7 or 8 because anything less feels wrong. You will@have plenty of these days in the future, but when you start and have time, use it wisely. It’s ok to leave the hospital when it’s light outside! #CTCareers

T4. Don’t try to know everything just because you are an attending. Asking for help is a sign of strength and makes your partners and the rest of the hospital community trust you more. #CTCareers

Also, it’s ok to do the case yourself even if you have a trainee with you. Just be honest with them up front and set the expectations. #CTCareers

I couldn't sleep! Too much coffee or maybe just looking forward to tonight's ISQIC Advisory Committee meeting. Lots of smart people (I'm dumbest) in one (virtual) room planning how to improve surgical care for our Illinois pts! ISQIC NU_SOQIC Karl Bilimoria Northwestern Surgery NW Gen Surg Residents

This past summer, I filmed something for Northwestern Medicine that you can see on ABC Nightline, 11:35pm March 3. If you’re not up late, record it, because you won’t want to miss it.

Great talk today by Charles Logan NM Pulmonary and Thoracic Surgery at the Western Thoracic on the opportunity for surgeons to help improve transitions of care for adjuvant treatment after lung cancer surgery. A sign of a good talk is the line at the mic to continue the discussion! #tssmn #wtsa2022
