In Lancashire in the '40s the locals didn't care about skin colour, but fairness and manners. Failure to respect an orderly queue being a cardinal sin. Hence, when ordered to racially segregate, the pubs put up 'Black Troops Only' signs. theconversation.com/black-troops-w…

Eldest daughter shadowed several (upper tribunal) immigration judges for her work experience this summer. Came away v impressed with the integrity and fairness of the judiciary. Much less so with the HO presenting officers, and *some* of the legal reps. Huge thanks to the judges!

Peremptorily shoving refugee families into homelessness is a choice made at a policy level (that new govt should change!). It's damaging to the refugees, to communities, and wastes precious council resources. Things that government wants to avoid, and yet chooses not to!

Love how my car insurance renewal with Direct Line is £335 / 67% higher for no apparent reason, against an industry backdrop of falling premiums. It isn't a renewal notice, it's a mugging.

After a lot of faff, saved £400 on my car insurance renewal quote with a different (well-rated, good coverage) provider. What a way to run an industry...

This sounds amazing. I probably need to be in the right frame of mind to read this. I always connect this kind of thing to someone who arrived here nearly 90 years ago (and was welcomed into my family). It's all just too close to the bone.
