Apex or Throttle? The line is to accelerate 1 kart length before the apex. If drivers apex at the acceleration (🔴) they will exit wide. The ideal line is to be 1/2 kart (🟢) width from the acceleration point an apex 1 kart later to get a fast exit. Learn with Kart Class.

FAST IN > SLOW OUT. Who’s heard that one before? The driver thinks they can gain 2 karts on entry, and gain 2 karts on the way out. Sometimes you need to give a little on entry to gain more on the exit.

I am incredibly honored to be inducted into the Motorsport Australia Hall of Fame. To be mentioned alongside these icons is something I’m yet to wrap my head around!

The Rain 🌧️ is Motor Racing’s BIGGEST EQUALISER! If you can’t drive in the rain, you’re screwed. Whether it’s kart control, throttle modulation, understeer or changing the setup, the rain is way more challenging for drivers and mechanics. That’s where real drivers are made!

Types of OTK Wheels Depending on the conditions, grip level, and tire compound you use, OTK have a wheel for you. Driving in warm conditions? Magnesium disperses heat the fastest! Racing in half wet / half dry conditions? Alloy wheels will heat the tire faster.

Which AMV wheels to use? Racing on a hot circuit? The 9F wheels disperse heat the fastest and maintain a cooler tyre temp. Cold and slippery track? The Lynx wheel heats the tyre faster and great for early laps! Whatever your class, AMV has a wheel for you!

Why does this kart spin? The driver was lifting, but as they approached the corner (steering wheel turned) would hit the brakes aggressively. If the driver used the brakes earlier (steering wheel straight), they would have more control and minimise the chances of spinning out.

How do you approach the braking zone? It will depend on the class, as entry speeds will play a big factor. Often I’ll hear of karts lifting before the braking zone just giving up valuable time. Others brake, then throttle then lift before re applying the throttle.

Where do you look when entering a corner? Your eyes drive the kart. It’s common for newcomers to be focusing too close to the front of their kart. Travelling at speeds in excess of 65mph (95kmh) they misjudge their entry as things are happening too quickly.

Where to race in the USA 🇺🇸? Looking to jump into karting & don’t know where to race? Or you’re a club racer aiming to step to Regional or National level. The USA karting scene has stepped it up over the past decade and is now seen as a great alternative to European karting.

What’s the purpose of learning how to do a 360? Kart control. The aim is to instil confidence. So as the kart begins to lose stability, the driver feels in control. It normally takes our drivers anywhere from 3-5 attempts to nail ** this is done with no other karts on track

Terence Dove - Karting Coach (@terencedove) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Absolutely agree with David Sera on deliberate 360 degree controlled spins being massive for confidence IF you've got the space for it. This is Oliver Meek on a day that was a real breakthrough in 2023, where he decided a 360 and still make the apex was the target.

Why did this kart spin? First time driving in the rain 🌧️ is always challenging! If you drive the same lines as the dry, you’re likely to lose traction. From one lap (turning in on a tight line) to the next (wider entry & straighter exit) the results are remarkably different!

David Sera (@davesera) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Which apex point are you hitting? When drivers focus too close to the front of the kart, they tend to turn in early & apex too soon. The problem with that? This means the driver will be later to the throttle and lose momentum on the exit. Later apex = earlier to throttle

David Sera (@davesera) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Which Apex are you driving? Early Apex 🔴 Late Apex 🟢 Newcomers tend to turn in early. This is due to not using the full track width on entry + looking close to the front of their kart As you get more experience, drivers will widen the entry to a corner & take later apexes

David Sera (@davesera) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Patience is Key 🔑 The left hand corner is “off- camber”, meaning the inside is the highest point & the track drops away to the outer edge of the circuit. This type of corner requires patience to decrease your chances of sliding & using excessive race track.

How to take an S-Bend So many drivers think about the first part of an ‘S’ but not the second part. This often leads to: A) A bad setup B) A bad exit Try plan ahead so you can position the kart in the right spot to exit fast.

Wet Line vs Dry Line When it’s wet (on slick tyres), staying off the rubber is key 🔑 to gaining more grip / traction. So try avoid the rubber line where possible! In the dry, look for the (rubber), as this will act like glue for your tyres and give you more stability!
