Blue Jays’ manager John Schneider said he was aware there would be reaction to the absence of Davis Schneider in tonight’s starting lineup. I believe he was right.

John Schneider called the no-hitter an outlier. I’d have preferred “Well, you couldn’t say we were bad with runners in scoring position”.

I’d say the guy who leads off for the Dodgers, batting .520, is making the baseball world forget about the Ohtani story, except that guy’s name is Mookie BETTS.

Spellcheck very important, in case you happen to describe Ohtani as the baseball superstar who pitches and also bets.

To add more late-season NHL interest: Award 5 home games to division winners in the 1st playoff round, and 5 home games in every playoff round to the Presidents’ Trophy winners. Currently, the race for 1st overall finds 8 teams separated by 5 pts. Fun, no?

Wouldn’t you love to hear Aaron Rodgers’ reaction if it turns out he was actually the 24th choice on RFK Jr’s list of possible running mates? (Hint—2005 NFL draft)

I’m not against video review, if applied sensibly, to correct an obvious mistake by a ref or linesman. It can do that with a war room call and QUICK look. The NHL’s insistence on a forensic study to discover offside by a millimetre is self-defeating.

The NHL once looked silly with the so-called “toe in crease” rule. The “offside challenge” rule is similar and needs to go. If a linesman’s whistle doesn’t stop play, whatever happens inside the blueline, a goal perhaps, stands. Simple. The way it was.

Deep bows to Allison Russell for her talents and messages onstage, and thank you, Allison, for your generosity and grace backstage. Those familiar with my annual music lists should understand.

Gerry signed my copy of his biography “Kid Dynamite: The Gerry James Story”, by Ron Smith (Oolichan Books 2011) with the following inscription: “Dreams are wishes with deadlines”. He lived life determined to meet all of his.

Imagine playing in the Grey Cup and the Stanley Cup final, IN THE SAME SEASON! Sorry to hear of the death of my first sports hero, Gerry “Kid Dynamite” James. Blue Bomber, Maple Leaf, epitome of the “tough player”. Died yesterday at the age of 89.

I’d ask what happened, in the way of a physical attack, to the very first basketball player who sealed a victory with a resounding slam dunk, but I know the answer: Hockey is different.

Kyle Shanahan should have asked a CFL coach what to do if/when the 49ers won the OT coin toss, and he would have been told to kick off.
