⚡️Some personal news: After 4 amazing years, today is my last day at Devex. I'm grateful for the opportunity to create journalism with some of the best minds in international development reporting. I've learnt so much from this small newsroom that punches way above its weight. +

I disagree profoundly with this man about almost everything, and he’s been part of a movement which has done this country enormous damage, but I would not wish this on a soul, and I do admire him for speaking openly about it.

A hill I'll die on: "data is" not "data are" English has 3 types of noun: singular, plural, uncountable. Loaf. Loaves. Bread. Only plurals use "are" Data is plural (of datum) in Latin. But this ain't Latin In English, data's uncountable. "25 data" = nonsense. Hence, "data is".

One of the fundamental concepts behind development is the idea of money flowing from wealthy nations to low- and middle-income countries (thread🧵).

The south now pays more in debt than it gets in grants and loans. This seems like a fundamental problem to me. Rich countries should be funding poor countries, not the other way around.

Building new homes not only tackles the homelessness crisis, and makes homes more affordable for all of us, but provides loads of jobs. It’s the most slam dunk, win win policy imaginable. Doesn’t even cost govt anything; after you build houses you can sell them or rent them out.
