I usually avoid anything non PhD-related but this is a new low, voted by 25 men. A small step for Alabama, a giant setback for gender equality.

Wanna know more about AI and its impact of society? I'll be at the Delirium Café ® bar in Ville de Reims this evening to give a talk about how AI became what it is today! Check out this event pintofscience.fr/event/le-pouvo… organized by Pint of Science FR, and see you there!

A new thread about a series of papers in legitimate scientific journals, all from the same author. These papers have all been peer-reviewed, but no editor or peer reviewer noticed a huge problem. Warning: this might make your jaw drop.

And that’s not even including all the deeply entrenched biases and inequalities that we can’t currently get rid off. So setting them in stone by putting them in a decision system is probably the worst solution.

I finally took the time to read this paper and, like the "Mythos of Model Interpretability", it's one of those articles that challenge and redefine your perception of the subject! Zachary Lipton is now definitely my spirit animal.

At Zahia Guessoum workshop, Philippe Mathieu (from Université de Lille) tells us how AI came to the rescue of Lord of the Rings and its huge battle scenes. Gandalf did nothing, Helm’s Deep was saved by multi-agent systems! #NewSentence

I understand there's good reason to be careful w paper deadline times, e.g. not to subject researchers w. families to family time v. paper sprint crises. But for purely logistical matters, e.g., paper bidding, we should always adopt AoE time zone: one less thing to remember.

On my way to useR! 2019 for my first useR conference: excited is an understatement! With so many awesome #rstats talks, choosing which sessions to attend will be the hardest thing. Anyway, it’s adventuRe time! #chocolatine

High-dimensionality is a recurring nightmare of mine. But this morning at useR! 2019, we got a nice tutorial by @visnut on how to visualize high-dim data! Below is an historical depiction of me beating the curse of dimensionality, circa 2019 (colorized)

So I wrote a tutorial on dimension reductions in #rstats. It has actually turned out to be fairly comprehensive. It uses a fun example dataset on cereals (🎉 - not looking for at iris) I would love some feedback: rpubs.com/Saskia/520216
