If you’re at #2024SVP (I’m not this year), check out Erika R Goldsmith presenting some of her dissertation research on Saturday—I’m biased as a member of the research team, but it promises to be spectacular given that session title! :)

Since we just passed the centenary of the Osborn 1924 paper naming Velociraptor mongoliensis, Oviraptor philoceratops, and Saurornithoides mongoliensis, here are the holotype skulls for a bonus #FossilFriday

Congratulations Erika!! And thanks for inviting me to contribute to this study! If you’re interested in seeing the smallest phytosaur femora yet discovered and some histological surprises, be sure to check out this open access paper!

Great description of the work by Danison et al. 2024, the status of #Saurophaganax, and the scientific method at work: testing hypotheses, retesting later with more data, and knowing a hypothesis could be tested again in the future. svpow.com/2024/12/22/abo…

For #FossilFriday here’s part of the type specimen of the Zimbabwean dinosaur Syntarsus, housed in the NHMZ, one of the most abundantly and well preserved early theropods known currently 🦖🇿🇼

Happy to see that our description of two beautiful specimens of the enigmatic oviraptorid dinosaur, Conchoraptor, was just published in AMNH Novitates: bioone.org/journals/ameri… (We're aware of the formatting issue in some figures, and are working on amending)

Many theropods shortened their arms and lost fingers. How did they do it? Our School of GeoSciences @ University of Edinburgh student Milly Mead, in her first paper, looks into oviraptorosaurs. Turns out, arm shortening and finger loss were decoupled! royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs…
