The way we live now is presented as axiomatic, but nuclear families in times of overlapping crises and no state support means women bear the brunt of a new, stripped down mode of parenting. And are then judged for not having children. This week's column theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

No children or young people under the age of 18 are in prison in Scotland. A historic achievement. Removal of the last remaining children from Polmont - and the guarantee no Scottish child will be jailed again - is a fitting legacy for William Lindsay. heraldscotland.com/politics/24555…

This is Catriona Renton's piece on the Polmont news. One of the best things about the last few months has been getting to know Catriona and seeing how hard-working, empathetic and tenacious she is.

The original Lino-cut for the cover of William Blake’s Songs of Innocence. It was only in 1794 that Blake combined his two sets of related poems into the single volume titled “Songs of Innocence and of Experience Shewing the Two Contrary States of the Human Soul.”

If anyone had any sweet/scandalous/funny stories about The Shed and fancied sliding into my DMs, that would be welcome. I mean the southside club obvs - I've no desire to hear what you get up to in the privacy of your back gardens ;).

I was admiring these lovely sketches of old Glasgow cinemas by Thomas McGoran in Dennistoun Library after my surgery last week. The city has lost too many of these landmarks. The ABC portico is solid concrete and can be saved. The ABC's owner and Vita Students should preserve it

A pregnant woman and six children are amongst the twelve people who died when their boats capsized in the Channel, French officials say. I don’t know how much more horror needs to occur before politicians will find the nerve to provide safe routes for asylum. Few words are left.

Unbelievably I am a finalist at the @TravelMedia_Awards 2024 and now means I need a frock to attend a swanky do at The Four Seasons Hotel London on 28 October. #TravelMediaAwards #Finalist Congratulations to everyone nominated and to Jez Lazell for the opportunity.

There’s nothing like a picture of a small angry-looking man sitting in a graveyard to sell tickets to a book festival. Luckily, tickets for the Byres Road Book Festival are free. So please do come along on September 29. I’ll even try to smile.
