Matt Matt Mullenweg has SO MUCH goodwill in the WordPress community and I fear he's squandering it in this @WPEngine fight. Whatever the details it's not coming off well in public. I hope they resolve things soon.

I respect Matt Mullenweg's opinion that consumers of open source should "give back", but to my mind that's antithetical to the notion of it being free. Free things do not come with conditions. Giving back is an option, and always welcome. That's open source.

I was interested to discover that the WordPress Foundation just registered for the trademarks "Managed WordPress" and "Hosted WordPress" earlier this year.

I love Help Scout and recommend them all the time. I've used them for years and am almost totally satisfied. You should use them: helpscout.partnerlinks.io/9cjaq3un7qbw HOWEVER they have a new feature that hijacks the "/" key in replies, and I don't like it. If you agree, let them know!

My mental model of Twitter is that the world has been annihilated, yet this hardcore crew of people continues to keep society alive. We're not dead, THEY'RE dead.

I don't like the binary, Musk-like offer Matt Mullenweg appears to have given his employees. "Should I stay or should I go?" Is not a question you want to ask yourself, on the spot, at any company. The payoff for leaving Automattic is evidently generous, but I find this method gross.

Daniel Jalkut (@danielpunkass) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I don't know if Automattic has officially stated that they have delivered an ultimatum to employees, evidently a loyalty-oath or at least a declaration of agreement with leadership, but this tweet suggests it is true. It's not a good look for Automattic, IMO, a company I admire.

I have always thought that if I ever get a "real job" again it would be back to Apple or maybe Automattic. The number of people, such as zeldman, who are staying gives me hope it's still a great place to work.
