BIG DEEP SEA NEWS - Deep-sea nodules produce oxygen. I knew this was coming and I'm so pleased this game-changing information is finally public. This is exactly why we need to stop #deepseamining whilst we conduct further research. Read the study here: nature.com/articles/s4156…

Most incredible science discovery this decade! Changes every textbook. Manganese nodules produce oxygen in the #deepsea!!? ⁦These are the nodules targeted for mining… they make oxygen… 😳🤯⁩ ⁦The Deep-Sea Podcast⁩ ⁦Deep-Sea Biology Society⁩ ⁦Rebecca Morelle⁩ bbc.com/news/articles/…

Dark oxygen made by deep sea 'batteries' - could support life on the seafloor and on other planets #stopdeepseamining bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

I think this is the biggest paradigm shift in deep-sea science I've ever seen. Kudos Andrew Sweetman and team for discovering that manganese nodule fields produce O2 in the deep ocean. BBC News (UK) report: bbc.com/news/articles/… Paper: Paper: nature.com/articles/s4156…

We recently reached dive nº 1000 of the Azor drift-cam In 6 yrs we visited all underwater structures of the Azores shallower than 1000m depth, exploring 600+ km of deep seabed A major achievement, not only for our team but for the scientific knowledge of this remote environment

A fantastic day at Natural History Museum yesterday, examining their collection of deep-sea sharks (Apristurus spp.) in preparation for some exciting Marine Vertebrate MSc (U of Exeter) projects. Thanks to Curator of Fishes Diego F B Vaz for all your support. @ExeterMarine University of Exeter CEC #deepsea #sharks #nhm

Day 1 for our first year Marine Biology students University of Exeter CEC and they are out on the shore already, delving into rock pools and getting familiar with the local fauna. 🦀 @ExeterMarine #ExeterMarine

I am deeply concerned to hear of the #NorthSea collision between an oil tanker and a cargo vessel. My first thoughts are with the vessels crews and their families but as a marine biologist from #Lincolnshire I am also very worried about the impact on vulnerable marine species.

Dr. Daniel M Moore (@danielmmoore_) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Latest information - Stena Immaculate was carrying A1 jet fuel. Whilst acutely toxic to aquatic life, there is likely less long term impacts to marine life than other potential pollutants such as crude oil. Still not good news but still feeling slightly relieved. #NorthSea
