What's the jet stream doing? 🌬️ Over the next 10 days, the southern branch of the jet looks to be rather active, sending fronts into the western South Island. During La Niña events, we tend to see the southern jet settle down in October-November, bringing more settled weather.

Wow! USA Fires. Look at the extent of the smoke drifting off the W. Coast. Big question of coarse for them! When will it rain? The big dominate upper ridge has to fade first! Increasing chances to Pac NW by mid month. Beyond that it may be the seasonal jet shift.

If you were walking around Auckland this afternoon, it would have seemed like a beautiful day, but you might not have known that heavy showers loomed just offshore 🌦️ That's the definition of "hit and miss showers"!

Check out the Key West , Fl. Doppler Velocity scan. showing the counterclockwise flow of wind around #IANHURRICANE Yikes! Some vivid colours but quite frightening to have it closing in the SW coast. The circle with no colour is the eye. Latest track info nhc.noaa.gov

When I say this was the roughest flight of my career so far, I mean it. I have never seen the bunks come out like that. There was coffee everywhere. I have never felt such lateral motion. Aboard Kermit (#NOAA42) this morning into Hurricane #Ian. Please stay safe out there.
