Most youth injuries are labeled “overuse” injuries. If that’s true, then it means at some point the signs of overuse were ignored. To name a few, soreness, fatigue, inconsistent performances. I have been preaching this for a long time, injuries at the youth level are rooted

What is the most common position a college player played when they were in youth/HS softball? What is the most common position a HS player switches to in college? You think playing a single position from 10u-18u is in your best interest?

7 days a week, 8 hours per night = 56 hours 168 hours in the week 56/168 = 33% of the week Practices 4 hours + Lesson 1 hour = 3% If you strength train 2x per week = 2% If you crush the 5% but skimp on the 33%, you’re not going to get a ton of a return on that 5%.

Building on my previous tweet, the current youth developmental model for ⚾️ and 🥎 players is on average this schedule. 2 Field Practices a week 1 Lesson per week 2x3 hours = 6 1 lesson = 1 hour (that’s gracious) 7 hours / 168 (total hours in a week) 4% Do you really think

Failure is one of the strongest motivators for learning and that learning sticking! Completely agree with “playing at the next or highest level,” shouldn’t be a prerequisite for being a good coach. There are tons of coaches who weren’t good players but extremely good coaches,

If speed is a barometer of health (and it is)… If health is the priority of high performance (and it is)… If traditional fatigue-seeking mindless conditioning detrains speed (and it does)… Then maybe we should conclude.., Health > Conditioning Speed > Fatigue

Amen! Especially at the youth levels. Other than having to raise your volume to have players hear you, I don’t know many situations that yelling at them is necessary. Add that it’s expected, allowed, snd encouraged. We wonder why kids act the same way…
