Fantastic day #3 in #Iceland with the UoR - Geography and Environmental Science students. They all really enjoyed climbing the Sólheimajökull #glacier and learning more about the area and #glaciology in general. Uni of Reading SHEAR SSC #nicedayforawalk #myofficeview

Fantastic day #3, yesterday, in #Iceland with the UoR - Geography and Environmental Science students. Excellent day of climbing Sólheimajökull (I managed it twice!), learning about the glacial history of the region, and measuring the ablation wires on the glacier to facilitate winter data collection.

After a 5.30am start on #Iceland day 5, the UoR - Geography and Environmental Science students trekked up onto Eldfell crater, before heading to the Eldheimar museum to learn about the 1973 eruption on #Heimaey

Yesterday UoR - Geography and Environmental Science students (and staff) were exploring the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, Geysir, and Gulfoss on Day 6 of their #Iceland fieldclass. Bonus "comedy" photo at the end.

The final day of the UoR - Geography and Environmental Science #Iceland trip, we had a walk around the new eruption at Geldingadalur. Checking out the extent of the lava flow, which is still very hot in places! Unfortunately, not many photos of this one 😅

Congratulations to Dr Josie Handley on successful defense of her PhD today! David Beresford-Jones and I throughly enjoyed the viva today. Supervisors: Nick Branch Professor Nicholas Branch joined from Peru and José Iriarte from Exeter! UoR - Geography and Environmental Science Thanks to independent chair Liz Shaw 🎉🎉🎉

Wooft…..it’s out!! The all singing and dancing BRITICE-CHRONO reconstruction of the last British-Irish Ice Sheet. Will tweet some more in depth highlights soon but it’s epic. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/bo…
