Sikhs worked on building the Panama Canal. Piara Singh Gill actually worked as a cabbie here decades later to afford tutition before studying under Arthur Compton (Manhattan Project).

Protectionism doesn't work for goods or labor. If you work in a field, It may seem beneficial to ban or kneecap other people with your skills to push up your own wages. The problem is that when everyone does this, all you get is inflation and your "real wages" are negative.

Can we agree? 1. America benefits by attracting the world's best talent. 2. H1Bs must not be abused by IT outsourcing companies paying below market wages for mediocre folks. 3. Tech is driving modern wealth so need bold initiatives to spark tech prosperity & jobs across America.

recurring reminder that the Hawaii governor tried to accelerate the rebuild by passing executive orders and the Sierra Club and ACLU sued to stop him 🤡

This is infuriating. Gavin Newsom's ban on "price gouging" for rental listings is causing a shortage of available homes in a time when people desperately need places to stay. This was incredibly predictable. The economic illiteracy is maddening.

John Ʌ Konrad V All this was very true in the past…but is terribly obsolete. Ships are now just sitting ducks for hypersonic missiles and drones. The top brass at the navy is desperate to stop putting humans out as easy target fodder, but congress insists on approving more human manned stuff

I am genuinely curious why he was able to build this for $42k a unit. What costs did he avoid that he couldn’t avoid if he did this legally? If CA could build $42k unit studios we’d end homelessness in a year

My lab’s 5-year NIH R01 grant, awarded to study gene therapy for hearing loss, was abruptly terminated. I want to share how this action has been incredibly harmful and disruptive, not just to my lab, but to the scientific process itself. 1/15

My dads favorite trivia is telling us about things that came from India. Nob Hill in San Francisco is so named because Nawaab (wealthy/influential in Hindi) became “Nabob” which became “Nob”
