Balloon and lantern releases create litter and #plasticpollution in landscapes and seas that can harm the environment, wildlife and livestock. Celebrate special occasions and loved ones by planting trees, wildflowers, or bee and butterfly gardens instead! Pic via Keep Britain Tidy

There are so many green spaces in our towns and villages that are over-mown or sprayed, but which could instead be boosting biodiversity and bringing nature back into our lives like this corner of Cambridge. RT if you agree 🐝

SO many bumblebee queens emerging at the moment due to the mild weather and finding very little in bloom. If you see one on the ground PLEASE don’t just walk past - gently pick it up and find some winter honeysuckle, mahonia or other winter flower it can safely feed from. Ta 🐝

Dear councils, 97% of meadows are gone. So please, this year, when the wildflowers return to the verges and our public spaces, don't poison them or over-mow them. Let them grow as a lifeline for insects like bees, butterflies and hoverflies 🐝

Plant a wildlife hedge instead of building a fence! It could help hedgehogs, bumblebees, blue tits, small mammals, insects, robins, frogs, bats, toads, dunnocks, butterflies, moths, blackbirds, solitary bees, wrens, hoverflies...

The Polka Theatre in Wimbledon ran a community cleanup event in Wandle Park recently - and we were glad to attend and see the community coming together for the environment. Activities included litter picking, willow weaving and a river cleanup by Friends of Colliers Wood Parks & Green Spaces #WildWednesday

Please don’t mow or spray the dandelions. They are a lifeline for pollinators including bees, butterflies, hoverflies. They support over 50 insect species. Our little film shows the life in a small patch 🐝 More: bit.ly/428s34x

We're losing wildlife. Frogs, butterflies, bumblebees, hedgehogs, moths, bats, insects, birds are all declining. But if more of us take positive actions for biodiversity in our gardens, communities, landscapes and towns, we can help nature bounce back. Who's in?

Wandle Park was looking verdant yesterday in the May sunshine. The resident male Cetti’s Warbler continues to shout out his song, and we now have two singing Reed Warblers, one in each reedbed. Blackcap and Chiffchaff were the other warblers in voice. #londonbirds Friends of Colliers Wood Parks & Green Spaces

Please don't turn your lawn into plastic. Plastic grass reduces food & shelter for wildlife such as bees & butterflies; has a high carbon footprint; sheds micro-plastics which wash into our rivers and seas. Create a wildlife-friendly space instead. More bit.ly/3wE67P8 🐝

A bumblebee can only fly for about 40 mins between feeding. But we've lost 97% of our wiłdflower meadows. So each nectar-rich flower you plant in a windowbox or in your garden or community green spaces could be the pit stop that saves a bee 🐝 #SaveTheBees

Good to have South East Rivers Trust's Jack Hogan with us at our Annual Meeting this evening with news on the Wandle Catchment Plan - the Wandle was one of the early pioneers of this way of thinking and caring about rivers
