Ukraine has once again attacked the oil pipeline leading to Hungary, cutting off supplies. This latest strike against our energy security is outrageous and unacceptable! Russian Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Sorokin informed me that experts are working to restore the transformer

"Generally the airframes & aircraft are designed around an engine and not vice versa. Our challenge is to fit an engine on an existing airframe. As a company we accepted this challenge & assured DRDO we can get it done." - Safran India CEO Make the hard choice

“ The fact that an Indian Rafale hit by a Pakistani <PL-15 missile> managed to return safely and save the life of its pilot finally convinced the Indian Air Force of its desire to order a hundred Rafales.” 🤔 avionslegendaires.net/2025/08/actu/l…

That is an attitudinal problem & not just a money problem. Industry will say academia is rotten and has no talent. If that’s so, how many times has it sought R&D incentives & collaboration with academia as compared to incentives it seeks for licensed tech production? Industry

Even more damning is that fact that we think technology can’t simply be “transferred”. Even good faith ToT only gets you some design or manufacturing know-how.

Mihir (@elmihiro) 's Twitter Profile Photo

At the cutting edge, most “technology” isn’t codified in a coherent fashion. It exists in the form of “tacit knowledge”, embedded in people’s brains and collective practice. This kind of “know why” doesn’t transfer easily. researchgate.net/profile/Jeremy…

This is why serious entities (states, corporate players) don’t just chase “technology”. They invest in people, or what we call “human capital”, because that’s where the tacit knowledge lives.

And that’s exactly how not to plan an industrial satellite town. Manufacturing (Apple, Zeiss, Exide factory) Core Engg R&D(Boeing, Aerospace SEZ) IT (Amazon SAP Labs) & BIAL Each industry with orders of magnitude different average pay all in the same vicinity.

Modi bet that the benefits of fiscal prudence + rerouting funds to infra would outstrip the risks of defense underspend. Nothing exemplifies this better than changing mix btwn rail and defense spend 2012-13 capex (CR): Railways - 60k Defense - 70k 23-24 IR - 265k Defense - 157k

Now let’s talk about jet engines and the choice of the GE F404 for the Tejas. If one goes by the conversations on Indian mil-Twitter, you would think that jet engine performance boils down to just two key metrics: maximum dry thrust, and thrust-to-weight ratio. That’s it.

May agree with the overall sentiment but largely it looks like we need a lot more bandwidth in the government in the coming years. Indian Trade Services operates with a fraction of strength their Chinese counterparts bring. For example. Several such examples exist where 10x

As dishonest a take as it gets. Post 1991 turn towards opening up to US was a conscious choice made at multiple levels to come out of both macro & individual economic woes and for ppl to pursue economic growth and prosperity. This spanned across decades. And for American culture

No word celling. Simple case of a weak state with no means to cater to its people choosing the most pragmatic path for its growth and prosperity for the medium term. Simple maxim of state doesn’t have a blank check to preserve itself in all forms at the cost of prosperity of its
