Pleasure to pay courtesy call on new USG #UNDESA, Mr. Li Junhua. We shared reflections on the challenges we face & important role of UNDESA in advancing the #2030Agenda. I reiterated Botswana’s gratitude for support to ECOSOC Presidency & agreed on collaboration as LLDCs Chair.

Honored to deliver a Statement this morning in Botswana’s capacity as Chair of the Landlocked Developing Countries, at the Joint meeting of the Second Committee and ECOSOC, on ‘new perspectives on poverty eradication- insights for sustainable recovery’

This afternoon I delivered a national statement at the 1st Committee of #UNGA77 expressing concern about the current global security climate & called for a renewed commitment to the UN Charter & other instruments that are aimed at making the world a more peaceful and safer place.

Took the floor moments ago on behalf of LLDCs to reaffirm our Countries’ commitment to the successful convening of the 3rd UN Conference on LLDCs in 2024 & also expressed solidarity with LDCs as they prepare for the 2nd part of their Conference to be held in Doha in 2023.

At the 4th Committee reaffirming Botswana’s solidarity with the people of the 17 Non-Self-Governing Territories in their quest to exercise the right to self-determination. All actors should intensify efforts during this 4th International Decade for the Eradication of Colonialism.

I had a fruitful discussion with Under-Secretary-General & Special Adviser of SG on the Prevention of Genocide, Alice Wairimu Nderitu, regarding the work of UN Genocide Prevention and how Botswana could continue to contribute to global efforts to prevent atrocity crimes, including genocide.

I had a fruitful meeting with Tomas Lamanauskas, Int’l Telecommunication Union Deputy Secretary General, to discuss collaboration on preparations for the 2024 3rd UN Conference on LLDCs, with a focus on digital technologies & connectivity to support the 6 priority areas of the Vienna Programme of Action.

It was a great pleasure to welcome to Botswana Mission today my colleague Ambassador & PR of UN Moldova 🇲🇩 🇺🇳 Gheorghe Leuca to reflect on collaboration between our 2 countries & the LLDCs common agenda which Botswana is proud to Chair.

It was great pleasure to welcome to Botswana Mission my dear sister and colleague Her Excellency Agnes Chimbiri-Molande PR of Malawi and also Chair of LDCs, to reflect on how our two Missions can continue collaboration on issues on the UN agenda.

Pleased to welcome African Military and Police Advisors to the Botswana Mission and deliver brief remarks on the occasion of their monthly meeting.

We hosted a farewell luncheon in honour of our colleague Dr. Edgar Sisa as he heads to Ministry HQ. We thank him for his dedicated service to the Botswana Mission.

It’s a great pleasure to welcome to Botswana Mission two of our new colleagues, Monei and Irene. Team BOTSREP and I wish them all the best on their assignment.

We had the pleasure of hosting at the Botswana Mission an informal conversation with our national and PhD Candidate Mr. Enole Ditsheko. He shared preliminary findings of his on-going dissertation on ‘Evaluating Botswana’s HIV/AIDS Messages & their impact on 15- 24 year olds.’

I was delighted to join other colleagues, PRs of #Armenia, #Rwanda, #Cuba, #Samoa, #Maldives at invitation by #UNITAR and #OPGA to welcome new Annalena Baerbock 2023 Fellows including our own former ECOSOC intern Mmoloki Tsheole. I wish them well in their assignment.

Our collective resolve must echo louder than the challenges we face. Together, we can make #COP28 a decisive win for our people, for our communities and for our planet.
