Success stories are hard to find in #journalism today. Salem Reporter is one of them. A great model for what digital journalism can & should be: Real news, community focused, no fluff or clickbait.

This is a good surprise, though it doesn't look like the bill is dead yet. Hopefully, all Ds who are opposed will hold their ground. #orleg opb.org/article/2025/0…

Ominous. Dutch Bros is "the first large, homegrown company to emerge in Oregon in many generations. It trails only Nike among the state’s most valuable businesses." Now, it's moving. #orleg needs to wake up to the damage it's doing to the Oregon #economy. oregonlive.com/business/2025/…

This is the most consequential remaining debate in #orleg. The #transportation bill could be scaled back with relatively little short-term consequence. As the article says, #wildfire funding is must-do. oregonlive.com/politics/2025/…

1 of the essential criteria for a successful local news organization in today's difficult environment is to truly understand its community. Like her predecessor, Therese Bottomly, Laura Gunderson brings deep Oregon roots to the job of @oregonian editor. oregonlive.com/portland/2025/…

Another high-profile Oregon industry facing a crisis because of over-regulation. If Oregon doesn't reverse course soon we'll have a lengthy endangered industry list. #tourism #economy #insurance oregonlive.com/business/2025/…

Very important article. 2 thoughts: 1. It's huge that Governor Tina Kotek recognizes that over-taxation is a problem. 2. It's typical that she wants someone else to cut #taxes. How about also cutting one of the state taxes of Multnomah will cut its tax. #orpol wweek.com/news/schools/2…

Love the headline on this DickHughes column. If the #transportation bill fails or is scaled back significantly, it will be #orleg's most notable encounter with reality in recent memory. That's good. Oregon needs more reality and less ideology. oregoncapitalinsider.com/2025/06/19/cap…

Democrats love to talk about Republicans "suppressing democracy." What exactly is this? It's a blatant effort to make it hard for voters to respond to what #orleg does. That's "suppressing democracy." Both parties do it when they're in power & Oregon Ds are worse than most.

Jeff Eager provides a detailed and captivating account of Democrats' aggressive attempts to pass a $15 billion #transportation bill in the final days of 2025 #orleg. Even in one-party states, burning bridges has consequences. Oregon Ds don't seem to care. oregonroundup.substack.com/p/supermadmajo…

The biggest remaining question for 2025 #orleg isn't whether the #transportation bill (or anything else) will pass, but rather how much damage already has been done both in terms of bad legislation & damaged relationships. oregoncapitalchronicle.com/2025/06/23/som…

I used to favor ranked-choice voting but have decided it has 2 fatal flaws: 1. It's to complicated. 2. It reduces trust in #elections. A better solution to polarized elections is a third party with similar power to Ds & Rs. Next best option: Open primaries.

If you don't already subscribe to the Oregon Roundup newsletter, do so now so you can get Jeff Eager's updates from the last week of 2025 #orleg. I also contribute occasionally, but I'm not nearly as prolific as Jeff. oregonroundup.substack.com/p/dems-no-gas-…

I don't follow NYC politics, but their mayoral #election follows a familiar pattern: A candidate with extreme policy views vs. a candidate with extreme baggage (behavior/health/something else). Some candidates (Trump) have both. Would love to see a race with 2 "normal" candidates

Lists like this are silly, but being one of the quietest cities in the world does seem like a natural consequence of so many people leaving #Portland. oregonlive.com/trending/2025/…
