Emma Mawdsley & Kate ✨️ Here's the little robinet cast for Prince Henry in 1604 by Thomas Pitt, #Tower gunfounder, recovered from HMS Association and now in the Scillies. It was for Henry's ship the Disdain, gift of the Earl of Nottingham.

I totally agree with this policy at the Colosseum in Rome. Modern graffiti on ancient monuments should have serious consequences for the perpetrators.

Visiting St Peter’s Basilica today, on All Hallows, I was chilled by the winged figure of death below the sculpture of Pope Alexander VII. It was Bernini’s last major sculpture commission and one of his most memorable.

My ancient Electrolux floor polisher died today after over 5 decades of faithful use. I can’t say that I ever looked at my mother like this when she used it though #DomesticBliss

Proud mum today - watching my eldest stand guard at the Cenotaph with his school CCF. The War Widows’ Association parade is always very moving. We Will Remember Them #Remembrance

It is great when museums lend to each other and you can examine works in a different context. The ⁦Musée du Louvre⁩ borrowed Henry VIII’s horned helmet by Konrad Seusenhofer from ⁦Royal Armouries⁩ & also this 16th century study of a jester carrying similar spectacles 🤓

A 4-year reminder came up on another digital platform today - Happy Birthday ⁦Sophie Anderton⁩ & ⁦Kirsty Parsons⁩. Even a global pandemic didn’t prevent us curators from celebrating 🎉

From one royal palace to another - the Grinling Gibbons horse in ⁦Royal Armouries⁩ returns from its summer holiday in ⁦Château de Versailles⁩ next week. It will be lovely to have him back in the Tower of London.

Today, this lovely painting by David Wilkie Wynfield of the arrest of Anne Boleyn went on display ⁦Royal Armouries⁩ ⁦The Tower of London⁩. The setting for this scene was a room ⁦Hever Castle⁩ but Anne was enjoying a tennis match at Greenwich when she was arrested.

This fabulous little chap with his wonderful moustache has been on display ⁦Royal Armouries⁩ Tower of London for over 220 years. However, we are unsure of his origins. Could he be from a German clock? This week he was lightly dusted as part of our Tower Spring Clean 🧹

If I won the lottery then I would certainly buy one of these. Abram Games’s work is stunning. His motto says it all - ‘Maximum meaning, minimum means’
