A raingauge with a view! Fabulous conditions at Seathwaite Tarn in the #Duddon Valley #Cumbria 😍. Who wouldn’t want to work in #Hydrometry?!

Very stormy weather in #Cumbria #StormIsha. Some huge differences in #rainfall across the area but Upper #Eden hit hardest. Wet Sleddale living up to its name with an incredible amount 🌧️🌧️. On the plus side our #telemetry seems to have performed very well #Resilience 🙂

Storm Jocelyn has bought another large amount of rainfall, particularly in Northern England. At Honister raingauge, the hydrometry team managed site has recorded 82.2mm in 24 hours. See your local totals and river impacts here 👇 check-for-flooding.service.gov.uk/station/8134?v…

A bit of respite from the #rain allows us to go and check a few hard worked #raingauges to ensure they are still recording accurately. These two at Tower Wood #Windermere and High Newton.

Back to one of our favourite #Cumbria raingauges with a view at Seathwaite Tarn, Duddon valley. Nice to see some dry and sunny weather for a change! 🤩

See a weighing raingauge in action with a transparent lid Andy in the national team had made. Dripping water through the system to show you what's happening inside... The black 'buckets' hold the water on the weighing cell (recording quantity and intensity) before self emptying.

At a height of roughly 55m, Old Trafford Falls stands as England’s 4th tallest waterfall behind only Cauldron Snout (60m), Canonteign Falls (70m) and Cautley Spout (76m)

A very wet 24hrs across #Cumbria, especially further north leading to some extreme river levels. Eg Thursby has had more than its May monthly average (50.2mm) in 12hrs and more than double that in 24hrs! Force Crag Mine over 100mm in 12hrs! Good to see the raingauges all working.

Out doing #raingauge inspections with our friendly Met Office Inspector Steve. These are 3 yearly checks to ensure the gauges and the sites maintain certain standards. Greenclose Farm, High Row and Glenridding Greenside Mine. Always good to confirm all is in order!
