Re-upping this Common Sense Wisconsin tweet from December. The Evers maps had a fatal flaw regarding the VRA and 14th Amendment. Here is a key paragraph from today's ruling from SCOTUS:

Journal Sentinel We could ask the person(s) who drew the maps why they chose to not follow the Voting Rights Act, but since the maps were drawn in secret...

SCOTUS rejects Gov. Evers state legislative maps. To this day we don't know who drew the maps and what directions they were given. His plan was the most secretive redistricting scheme in Wisconsin history.

Would "non-partisan" reform violate the Voting Rights Act and the Equal Protection Clause as badly as your maps? Golly folks, we already know the answer: The Gov did create a "non-partisan" commission -- Its maps also violated the VRA and the 14th Amendment.

One under-reported (but noted by Common Sense Wisconsin) aspect of the now-rejected Evers map was that it divided the Oneida Tribal Nation. The leg map and the maps I prepared for CS keep the Nation intact. Another example of unnecessary harm to a minority community by the Evers map.

He tweets this. He says this. Yet, Governor Evers' redistricting scheme (since rejected by the US Supreme Court) split 115 municipalities. Far more than other maps submitted.

The only way to ensure long-term uniform administration of election laws (regardless of which party controls the legislature or Governor's office) is to amend the State Constitution. See more about our Election Integrity Initiative here: commonsensewisconsin.com/elections/

NEW: Wisconsin Supreme Court selects legislature's maps. "the maps proposed by the Wisconsin Legislature are race neutral. ...we adopt the state senate and assembly maps proposed by the Legislature for the State of Wisconsin." Decision --> will-law.org/wp-content/upl…

Jan 19th🧵 from Common Sense Wisconsin explores why the Evers' map had fatal flaws leaving the leg plan as the best remaining alternative before the court. I have previously outlined flaws in the leg plan, but noted they are not fatal. Thus, the success chance of DEM appeal is very low.

People who believe that the maps drawn by the Republican legislatures were a gerrymander and that the maps drawn by Governor Tony Evers were not need to rethink things. That belief is either naive or partisan.

I'm shocked to learn that a group claiming to be against gerrymandering would collude to manipulate data. Absolutely shocked (sarcasm).

And this is where the dishonest nature of this group came into play. The Evers maps did, in fact, contain numerous examples of partisan gerrymandering -- and this group helped provide cover to the Gover. Here is an example we've used in the past of an Evers gerrymander.

If this was Scott Walker instead of Tony Evers, this story would be a headline story in every newspaper across the State every single day. Since it is Evers however, there is relative silence and apologist coverage.wisconsinrightnow.com/2022/10/11/eve…
