First day back from break and we had some fun with fractions! Today we used Fraction Circles to help us place fractions on a number line by comparing them to benchmarks!

This afternoon these leaders presented their food web projects to the class! Each student picked an ecosystem to research and created a one pager showcasing its food web. I love seeing them be proud of their hard work and share it with their peers! 🌱🐠🦥

Math Night at Publix was SO fun! It was so exciting to see my Leaders using their math skills and strategies in the real world! 🐝

We had a GREAT time seeing the Columbia City Ballet’s performance of Ferdinand the Bull at the Koger Center today! We were so impressed by the performers and their ability to tell a story through dance! 🩰⭐️

Today, one of my Leaders used a coupon she earned to read a book to the class! She read “The Story of Ruby Bridges”and we learned so much about her bravery and compassion. The best part for me was seeing this Leader’s confidence as she read and the support from her classmates!❤️

We had the best time participating in the virtual author visit today with the INCREDIBLE Daka Hermon ❤️ These leaders were fascinated by her story- Marvel writer and author?! Wow! We can’t wait to read her book, Hide and Seeker. Thank you Richland School District Two for a great experience!

Tons of fun with units of measurement! Today these leaders worked in math small groups to measure length, weight, and capacity of objects in our classroom and convert between units in the metric system and the customary system. 📏

We had the best day with our special guest, my sister! Ms. Julia read a story from our March Madness Tournament of Books bracket, led a small group where students played a Conversions Memory game, and shared a presentation on her study abroad experiences in Italy! 🤩❤️

I had to hold back tears today listening to Chris Singleton share with our students his message of resilience and courage. Each unity clap made me so grateful for every student, from every walk of life that we get to work alongside! Light always wins! LonnieBNelsonElem Richland School District Two

5th Grade Picnic and Promotion Ceremony had me feeling ALL the emotions!! 🤩🥳😢🥰 I am so proud of these Leaders and can’t wait to see all they accomplish in middle school, but I will miss them SO much! ❤️🐝

TWO classes means DOUBLE the fun!! Each group in Homad's 5th Grade Hive’s homeroom and my homeroom were able to work together and Save Fred in this exciting challenge! Happy First Day of 5th! 💗

Today, we were architects! We read “Iggy Peck, Architect” and discussed the unconventional building materials he used. Then, it was their turn to sketch a plan and put it into action! The challenge - build the tallest tower using only spaghetti, marshmallows, string, and tape! 🤩

Today, we had a visit from the Richland County Soil and Water Department and they led us through a very engaging lesson on Water Sheds and Pollution! We were able to see how different pollutants in our community end up in our water, and discussed ways that we can prevent it! 😆

Lee State Park was FABULOUS! Thank you to Ranger Laura for helping us investigate the Freshwater Pond Ecosystem. Students pulled water samples, found organisms, and looked at them under a microscope! Then, they sorted the plants and animals they found into food chains. 🔬🌿🤩
