The idea that ‘the community supports mutual obligations’ is a political narrative, not a fact. Most people haven’t experienced the system themselves—they’ve just been sold the myth that poor people need to be punished to be productive. 🧵

But when people actually learn how degrading, pointless, & violent mutual obligations are—how they trap people in poverty, force them into unsafe work, or make them jump through hoops just to survive—they’re shocked. 🧵

Public support for something built on misinformation isn’t a mandate. It’s manipulation. Besides, public opinion has been used to justify all kinds of oppressive policies in the past. That doesn’t make them right. 🧵
