The sun was out for today's Manchester Activity Day. Volunteers were busy removing over 5 one ton bags of litter and unwanted vegetation from the Rochdale Canal through Manchester city centre. The team also worked on lock maintenance by oiling/greasing and painting locks. 👏

We currently have 5,000+ incredible humans volunteering for us who, together with our teams, work hard to protect our canals 💪 We can’t thank them enough for giving up their time to help our canals thrive, ensure they remain navigable and preserve their unique history 💙

Work to replace the top & bottom gates at Lock 69 (Newton Heath) on the Rochdale Canal have been completed. Specialist teams, including joiners, bricklayers & stonemasons, used a 300-tonne crane to replace the 25-year-old gates with new ones. Great work team. 👏
