Energy Minister Simeon Brown has just now apologised to Parliament for 'any confusion' he may have caused by presenting a chart a couple of weeks ago, after Newsroom reported the chart was misleading.

Kainga Ora debt has increased $10b in 6 years but this Govt is leaving out the part of the conversation where they tell you assets have increased by $25b in the same timeframe Kieran McAnulty MP

This ⬇️is an interesting thread. I recall Trevor Farmer and Mark Wyborn made big donations to ACT, NZF and National parties but odd they also donated to a candidate in New Plymouth. I doubt it is an innocent mix-up.

The view that Kāinga Ora isn't 'financially sustainable' is garbage. The whole point of some government services is that they can make a loss (e.g. to invest in transport or libraries or housing), and this is why we look at tax and spending as a whole, across govt.

Yesterday Housing Minister Chris Bishop ruled out a mass sell off of state houses.

Today Chris Luxon refused to say how many houses would define a 'mass sell off.'

You can't be held accountable if you don't specify the parameters of your promises.

Oh, I can see why the government want to sack the current Kainga Ora Board and replace them - they are Labour appointments who were committed to public social housing and fixing the housing shortage!!

Sure he only declared $29,268 out of $207,662 in candidate donations. But come on it’s not like he walked across the chamber and shook a pamphlet or anything! nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/na…

UPDATE: the govt introduced the Māori wards Bill today, ignoring the Tribunal’s recommendations. Two weeks in a row the Tribunal has said that a proposed Bill breaches treaty principles, only for the govt to introduce that Bill the next working day. Utter disregard for Te Tiriti.

The Government has yet again failed to do the one thing that needs to happen to ensure social houses can be built – commit to ongoing funding. Across the country developments are being cancelled because of funding uncertainty. They could have sorted that today, they chose not to.

Bishop is a con man. They will sell off state housing for the benefit of private landlords as the Nats always do but this time it will be worse.

This article describes how Kainga Ora has changed processes to make building faster and more efficient, so I really can not see how any community group can do better than this - industry insiders are enthusiastic about KO's streamlining.

Okay, so Housing Minister Bishop - on the basis of a flawed report from English - asserts Kainga Ora is not financially viable. It’s a CROWN AGENCY! It was NEVER intended to be a source of revenue for government! Its purpose is the PROVISION of housing.
