Terry Baucher Yes, permanent scarring from a self-inflicted wound. Imho 2024 looks a lot like 1991 - ideological spending cuts, central bank on a power trip, recession etc. Trouble is we can't use a private debt / housing bubble to fuel a recovery. We played that card in the 90s.

Suzanne Pierce Every Tory party who gets elected does something like this. Muldoon raiding the pension scheme, Bolger cutting Welfare, Key putting GST up and not paying into SuperFund and running EQC funds down. Now we have Luxon’s mob raiding the flood resilience fund - all for tax cuts. 😡

The reason for this is that the Fast Track Approvals Bill is more about undermining environmental standards for pet projects rather than speeding things up.

Nick Luxon is weak. He has allowed the tail to wag the dog and now he is learning that the tail end of a dog is also where all the shit comes from.

✂️ It’s been revealed that Treasury produced a report for Nicola Willis titled ‘Discontinuation of the National Resilience Plan’. This is the $6 billion fund that was put in place to support communities and councils after Cyclone Gabrielle & the Auckland floods.

Today's gift from Luxon's coalition of mayhem is more cows in mud. More polluted rivers. More contaminated drinking water.

Government to repeal winter grazing (mud farming) rules for farmers in first Resource Management Act Amendment Bill newshub.co.nz/home/politics/…

NZ Govt wants to abolish Te Mana o te Wai. TMotW means when councils make water allocation decisions they must put health of freshwater ecosystems first, human health second, and commercial use third. This Govt wants agribusiness irrigation to trump human and ecosystem health.

Paul Le Comte NZ National Party Remember when Clare Curran failed to diary a meeting with Derek Handley, and the mere *perception* of a conflict of interest was enough to cost her her job?

Now Bishop, Jones and Co are literally rewriting the rules to suit their corporate donors, and apparently it's all good.

The current government’s decision to invite political donors to participate in the fast track consenting process stinks, particularly as ministers propose to give themselves the power to make arbitrary decisions. Ethical standards are an endangered species under this govt.

Your periodic reminder that England, a windswept nation with more potential for onshore wind power than almost anywhere else in the world (other than Scotland), banned new onshore wind farms in 2017.

Of course our smarmy PM can't resist taking a swipe at the union representing 90,000 members in the public Service, saying 'I've seen the comments from the PSA ; many are Labour Party members'. Soooo? You have a problem with democracy Mister? TVNZ Breakfast

Nick People who actually know stuff, just talk about that stuff. Their knowledge is self evident. I've never needed an expert to tell me they're well read.

As for being well briefed, that might come as news to the public servants advising him...

Why does the Prime Minister of NZ discussing foreign policy sound like one of my students pretending they've done the reading they so clearly haven't read?
