These are really powerful articles about the role of family medicine during times of war. My respect goes out to my colleagues struggling to provide care to their communities during these tragic times. Must read for my family medicine friends. #familymedicine NVAcadFamPhysicians

Annals of Family Medicine Very well put. Doctors need to think beyond the man made dichotomies and care about patients and their colleagues. A Doctor saving lives is a Doctor saving lives. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

So much respect for my mentor Caroline Richardson, MD for uplifting the humanity of all people affected by war and the family physicians caught in conflict. These Annals of Family Medicine articles and her editorial are worth reading!

Today it seems important to remember polio is a highly contagious and devastating disease for which there are no effective direct antiviral treatments. The vaccine inexpensive and 99% effective and has eliminated polio in all countries with a functioning public health system.

Of all the things so far, the shutting down of PREP worldwide today (PEPFAR) could be the most catastrophic. It ends access to life-saving HIV prevention drugs to millions across the Global South, halting a program thatโ€™s saved 25 million lives.

NIH indirects pay for shared research infrastructure, staff, buildings, specialized equipment and systems. Here is an analogy: direct $ pay for the cars (specific research projects) and indirect $ pay for the roads, traffic lights, and superchargers. Infrastructure matters.

Iโ€™m all for protecting Jewish students, and really any student, from assault. But Iโ€™m just not understanding how defunding Columbiaโ€™s cancer center is protecting anyone. It is definitely hurting students with cancer, students learning to do cancer research, and so many others.
