I am tweeting yes ✅ for all the Aboriginal kids in remote #northernterritory. Not one of over 400 babies reached age 7 months without OM, 70% had chronic OM (>3 months), 10% burst ear drums. Menzies Research #earhealthforlife telethonkids #hearingforlearning

70% Australia’s First Nations children in remote regions have chronic OM and disabling hearing loss by age 12 months. Primary Health Care must be appropriately resourced to manage this crisis. This OMapp is awesome! #earhealthforlife #WorldHearingDay

In remote communities those rates rates are 1. 70% have chronic or recurrent OM by age 7 months, 2. at ages 12 & 18 months 30% have disabling hearing loss (>30dB), 3. ~13% have perforated ear drums. Primary Healthy Care workforce in crisis. #earhealthforlife

Working in Darwin and remote NT SINCE 1991, the worst of ear disease (“runny ears”) has declined - a lot of hard work by families and primary health care BUT workforce crisis needs seismic shift to keep kids ears healthy and hearing every day Kelvin Kong AM
