After presenting this Diabetes UK Research conference #DUKPC2024 last week our article âThe metabolome as a diagnostic for maximal aerobic capacity during exercise in type 1 diabetesâ is out Diabetologia #exercise #type1diabetes #metabolomics @LeedsMedHealth link.springer.com/10.1007/s00125âŚ

Exciting opportunity for post-doctoral research scientist to work in Type 1 diabetes and islet transplantation to improve outcomes with microparticles packaged with immunomodulatory drugs based EdinUniCVS; thanks to @stevemorganfdn and Diabetes UK for funding. Apply now.

So pleased for and hugely proud of my great friend and colleague Sarah Richardson who has been awarded a Personal Chair at University of Exeter. Thoroughly well deserved - Sarah; you are a true star of the type 1 diabetes field. Sarah Richardson ExeterDiabetes Islet Biology Exeter

New study led by Jiping Zhang - low glucose increases macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) release from macrophages. Allosteric #AMPK activators do a decent job at attenuating/limiting MIF release Diabetic Medicine Wiley #ExeterDiabetes Diabetes UK Research. Explainer to follow

New Diabetes UK funded research published in Diabetic Medicine reports how low blood sugar (#hypoglycemia) triggers inflammation by increasing the release of a protein called MIF in immune cellsđ

đĄFindings suggest that activating AMPK, the body's fuel guage, could reduce this inflammatory response. Drugs targetting AMPK could help manage inflammation during #hypo, potentially reducing the risk of cardiovascular events #diabetes. Full textđonlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11âŚ
