We strongly denounce the Israeli airstrikes that hit a camp sheltering people on 26 May in Rafah. After the attack, 180 wounded & 28 dead were recorded at the Trauma Stabilisation Point we support in Tal al Sultan, Gaza. Patients we treated had traumatic injuries & burns👇1/3

There is no viable alternative to keeping the overland crossings open and unimpeded. Even if the pier is repaired (after another week), it remains vulnerable to suspended operations any time there are moderately heavy seas. Not a reliable axis for aid delivery.

I hate to say this, especially given how this cuts off any hope of urgently needed aid, but anyone experienced in humanitarian response knew this was a disastrous distraction and boondoggle from day one. Delivering humanitarian assistance requires more than just good intentions.

I understand Biden's problem: People like me critique him for not pressuring Israel enough, but the moment he does press Bibi, he gets pounded from the right. Still, turning a blind eye as Israel crosses red lines in Rafah undermines US foreign policy across the board.

It’s critically important that the U.S. be allowed to provide their stockpiled vaccine & antiviral drugs to the DRC to help save lives & contain the #MPOX outbreak. World Health Organization (WHO), what’s holding up the review process?

For the ‘I don’t want government in control of my healthcare!’ crowd… Private equity is gobbling up anything and everything in healthcare. Which leads to dramatic prices increases AND lower quality of care. And it’s all for one thing: Profit wsj.com/health/healthc…

It is not surprising that another dairy worker in MI has a confirmed H5 influenza infection. But that this was on a separate farm than last week's case AND involves respiratory symptoms is deeply concerning.

BREAKING: The Biden administration just announced an executive order that will severely restrict people's legal right to seek asylum, putting tens of thousands of lives at risk. This action takes the same approach as the Trump administration's asylum ban. We will be challenging

This death was caused by Clade IIb mpox virus, the same virus that caused the 2022 outbreak. Because this is the same outbreak. Reducing spread only in wealthy countries doesn’t end outbreaks. Outbreak prevention and response needs to be a global effort, not a national one.

WHO just declared a new global public health emergency for mpox. It's a different variant than the one from the 2022 outbreak. This one is about 15 to 30 times deadlier. It had been only in the DRC, but it's starting to get out. The world must act. nytimes.com/live/2024/08/1…

We’ve heard about wastewater surveillance for COVID. But it’s increasingly being used to track drug use. This leads to so many questions for public health folks, all wonderfully explored by the remarkable Helen Ouyang in The Atlantic Gift link below 👇 theatlantic.com/health/archive…
