What was supposed to be a battle between two of the top 10 teams in Class AAAA turned into a 47-12 lopsided win for N. Branch Activities over Duluth Denfeld.

In an overtime thriller, N. Branch Activities beats Grand Rapids 20-14. Vikings advance to section championship, opponent and location TBD.

North Branch will play Hermantown in the Section championship, so we are assuming the game will be at Duluth Denfeld as originally scheduled.

In another thriller between N. Branch Activities and Grand Rapids, the Viking volleyball wins 3-1 in Section 7AAA semifinals. They will now face (you guessed it) Hermantown in the finals on Thursday, Oct. 31. Site not yet announced.

The Section 7AAA volleyball finals will be at Cloquet on Oct. 31 at 6 p.m.

In gymnastics action, CIHS Activities tops N. Branch Activities 141.575 to 136.875. Dakota Esget won all-around with a 36.7. Aubrey Wilson was right behind with a 36.55.

In girls basketball N. Branch Activities edges CIHS Activities 58-56.

At Class AAA State track & field. CIHS Activities Jackson Ziebarth qualified for the 100 finals with the 2nd fastest time.

In state boys pole vault CIHS Activities Calvin Piescher takes 2nd & Wesley Kennedy finishes 6th.

Class AA State track meet results: N. Branch Activities Ella Dick takes second in pole vault. 4x100, 4x200 & Sophia Thorsen (200) place 6th. Dakota Esget finishes 9th in pole vault.

In a very wet Class AAA State track finals, CIHS Activities Jackson Ziebarth took 2nd place in the 100. The boys 4x800 finished 12th.
